How to Practice Yoga for Self-Care

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

I know that everyone has probably heard of the term “self-care.” It’s like everywhere we turn everyone is preaching “self-care, self-care, self-care”…it’s like a broken record on repeat right???? But how many of us actually partake in it and truly take the time to rebuild, reenergize ourselves, or take a brief time-out when we need too.  In this post, I’m partaking in a form a self-care by doing yoga. Yoga always centers me and allows for me to refocus on everything that I need to do.

Self-Care is the Best Care….

Self-care, is the act of taking care of yourself emotionally, mentally, and physically. When  I was in nursing school and I was stressed out to the max 24/7. I wasn’t sleeping, I was literally living off of Red Bull, coffee, and gummy worms. I was so  exhausted from class and clinical rotations that when I got home, I literally started crying in my car.

I had no idea at the time that I was in dire need of some TLC from myself. So when we finally had a break,  I took some time and focused on myself. I got a great deal of  much needed rest, ate some healthy and nutritious meals, and started doing yoga. Honestly, I’ve never really liked yoga, because I’ve always been more of a fan of high intensity workouts. However, if I was going to survive nursing school I needed to find my inner peace and calmness. Which is why I turned to yoga, that was four years ago and whenever I’m feeling stressed or exhausted I practice yoga.

The Benefits of Yoga

Yoga has so many great benefits, it’s wonderful if you suffer from anxiety. It incorporates meditation with breathing exercises. Yoga can help create and strengthen; mental clarity, calmness, self-awareness of your body, centers and  sharpens the mind, and relieves chronic stress.

I don’t know about y’all, but I’m constantly stressed out about something. Being a  lifestyle/fashion blogger and entrepreneur has its ups and downs. I love to create things and manage my own schedule, but with so much responsibility stress is always lurking around the corner.

Especially with the holidays coming up and my mom and I have some many things that we’re working on. I can slowly feel myself becoming overwhelmed. I’ve learned that when I start to feel this way it’s time to bust out my yoga mat. So I begin to practice yoga for awhile and I instantly felt better. I still have a million things to do, but now I feel more capable of handling them.

Final Thoughts

So if you’re feeling a little stressed, exhausted, or overwhelmed. Remember to take a little time for self- care and yoga. You’ll feel so much better, this is a stressful time of year, but don’t forget to take care of yourself. Self-care is the highest expression of love that we can give to ourselves!

Happy Holidays and Don’t forget to love yourself first…You won’t regret it I promise…
