How to Wear Wide Leg Jeans When You’re Petite

Happy Friday Kittens!

WOW! It seems like it has been sooooooo incredibly long since I’ve done a Fashion Friday blog post! It’s been an extremely busy and stressful time.  Furthermore,  the world is experiencing a global pandemic and not to mention a President that refuses to acknowledge that he’s lost. Needless to say there has been a great  deal of turmoil in the world. However, it is also important to keep moving, and try to find some semblance of normalcy.

Fashion has always been a safe space for me, no matter what’s going on in my life or how crazy the world may seem. A few things I can control is what I wear. This post is specifically one that I’m excited to share with y’all! I normally don’t wear jeans the first and only post that I’m wearing jeans can be found here.

However, in this post I’ve decided to dedicate it to a trend that is timely and fashionable: the high waisted wide leg jean also known as the flare leg jean.

How to Wear Wide Leg Jeans

Wide leg jeans or flare leg jeans are absolutely iconic they are synonymous with the 60’s and 70’s. Wide leg jeans give off such a Bohemian vibe, which I feel  works with every body type. The key is to pair your wide leg jeans with a top and accessories that suit your personal style  and your body type.

My wide leg jeans are high waisted black corduroy jeans from Free People, which can be found here. These high waisted jeans  are perfect if you’re petite like myself, because they elongate the body. I’ve learned this trick early on and many of the skirts and shorts I wear tend to be high waisted. Don’t be afraid of the wide leg jean trend  because you may be on the shorter side. Just remember to opt for a high waisted fit and voila you’ll look taller instantly.

What to Wear with Wide Leg Jeans

The Top

Wide Brim Hat

I literally  built this look in my mind, the jeans were easy to find,  but finding the perfect top took a lot more effort. I waited until the jeans arrived and I really took my time putting this look together. When I was considering this look I knew that I wanted to do a crop top of some type. I usually love tops with bows, and bell sleeves. However, I didn’t want the pieces to be in competition or outshine one another. I really wanted the outfit to work together and each piece to complement the other. So it was imperative to find the perfect top for this outfit.

It took a while and I looked online and in stores, but nothing really grabbed my attention. Until I saw this olive green wraparound crop top from Forever 21, which can be found here. I knew that I had the best piece that would work for my body type.  I can totally wear  wide leg jeans with a crop top that ties in the back. One of the pluses and minuses about living in the South in November.

I’m a lover of exaggerated sleeves and these sleeves did not disappoint. In fact they’re perfect, they’re billowy peasant sleeves. I knew that I had to be careful, because since I’m petite I didn’t want to look bogged down because of the top and jeans. I needed to balance out the  the flare of the jeans.  This crop top is exactly what I needed to help complete this look.

The Hat

Wide Brim Hats

Now I knew I had to wear a hat with this look, but it couldn’t just be any ole regular hat. I needed  a hat that was fashion statement all on its own. I knew I needed a wide brim hat, but I didn’t have a one wide enough. Of course the first hat  I thought of was Beyoncé’s hat from Formation. But I knew I wouldn’t never find a hat like that around here. I mean that hat is iconic, but it’s hard to find something that fabulous. So I had to look online as a matter of fact I had to find a hat brand in Australia called Lack of Color, which can be found here.

I ordered the hat via Amazon,  and I have fallen in love with it. It’s a little on the pricey side,  but I have learned that if I want accessories that have longevity. I have to spend a little more. I look at these pieces as investments, and  it’s ok to splurge every now and then.

Accessories

The shoes,  can truly make an outfit or tear it apart. These wide leg jeans truly flare out especially in person. I literally had to hold them up while walking because they’re so long. I knew I needed an extremely high shoe and I had the perfect boot in mind. My six inch black boots are from Fashion Nova  unfortunately they’re sold out, but a similar version can be found here.

Lastly, I decided to carry a  lady-like handbag which  is seriously one of the best bags ever created. It’s such a classic and versatile bag, because it adds the finishing touch to any look. My Steve Madden bag  is sold out, but a similar version can be found here.  I hope y’all enjoyed this look as much as I enjoyed putting it together.

Always remember to be Fierce, Fabulous, and Fearless! *Muah*
