Happy Monday Kittens!
The Coronavirus Pandemic has changed the entire trajectory of fashion and we must learn to adapt. Normalcy as we’ve known it no longer exists. When I leave the house I have to remember; keys, wallet, purse, cellphone, and my face mask. Yes, it’s completely unreal and unfathomable to me that in the year 2020 I have to remember to grab a face mask. In order to protect myself, my family, and those I may come in contact with. As crazy as wearing a face mask has become to me, I’ve decided to find a way to still express myself through my fashion choices.
Fashion has always been something I’ve been obsessed with. Even as a young girl I can remember putting outfits together. Now as an adult I have to figure out how to be stylish and safe at the the same time. So in this blog I’ve decided to showcase some of my favorite everyday face masks from Shop Southern Love.

What I’m Wearing With My Face Masks
If you don’t know already I have an infinite love for crop tops, they’re my go to fashion piece in the summer. Even though there is so much going on in the world; a pandemic and social unrest I still wanted to hold onto something that made me feel like me. No matter what I’m going to be the girl in a wide brim hat and crop top. If I’m ever lost in a crowd, that’s how I’ll be found it’s just who I am.
In this post, I’m wearing a lace bell sleeve crop top, which I purchased from Lulu’s before the pandemic hit. So unfortunately it is sold out, but don’t worry I found a similar version which can be found here. I paired my top with a Sweet Dirt black skirt, which can be found here. I always like to pair crop tops with high waisted pieces, because I feel it really allows for you to look very polished and put together. Not to mention it cinches in the waist and gives your body a more refined silhouette.
Accessories
Of course I’m wearing a wide brim hat, because that is a signature accessory for me. I wear hats all year round and summer is no exception. I usually wear floppy straw hats, but this black boater hat from Gigi Pip, which can be found here has become my new favorite. My hat is named “The Dahlia” (my hat is so fancy, it has a name…lol) it’s a women’s boater style hat with a super stiff brim and flat crown.
The Dahlia is the perfect stiff brim hat and has a spot in every closet, as it will carry over to any season. That’s one thing that I absolutely love about it, it can be worn throughout the year. When I look for pieces, I tend to look for items that I can wear year round. I feel like since fashion is always evolving, it’s important to find those fashion staples that are timeless.
Lastly, I’m wearing six and half inch wedges, yes you read that correctly six and half inches…y’all! Of course my insanely high shoes were purchased from Fashion Nova, and they can be found here. I’m extremely petite and I love the feel of wearing a really high shoe. The craziest part is they are a really stable shoe, because it’s a wedge so it’s insanely easy to balance myself. I have been wearing heels for as long as I can remember. I always joke that I entered this world in a pair of heels.
How Face Masks are Changing the Face of Fashion
As I mentioned earlier, when I leave the house I have to make sure that I have a face mask. I even have a spare in my car in case I’m in a rush and forget. In the city where I live it’s mandated to wear a face mask in public, or you could be fined. I realize that some may have tried to politicize wearing a mask, but honestly I profoundly believe that it’s a public health and safety issue. If a simple cotton face mask is going to keep myself and the people I care about safe, then I’m going to wear it. However, I’m going to make it as fashionable as possible of course. Which is why I chose to showcase some of my favorite everyday masks.
I think that nearly every fashion brand is selling masks, because this has become our new normal. If we’re forced to cover our faces, we might as well try to look as fashionable and fun as possible. Since I always take great care in picking my outfits and accessories I want my mask to reflect that as well. I feel like how we choose to express ourselves says a great deal about us, and I feel like our masks should do the same thing. Which is why I chose these masks to pair with my outfit, because in some way each of these masks represent who I am.
My Everyday Face Masks
The Lace Face Mask
I love lace and this face mask shows that, it’s extremely comfortable and light- weight. Which is perfect because this South Carolina heat is ridiculous at times. This breathable 3-Dimensional face mask is a handcrafted mask, that features nude fabric, with a black lace overlay. This mask is available in sizes Medium through X-Large and can be found here. It’s made with 100% Cotton & Lace so it’s breathable, no filter needed, and to it can be washed and reworn.
The Smiling Mouth Mask
The smiling mouth mask is one of my favorites, it really represents who I am. Those that really know me, know that I have a very silly personality and I try not to take myself so seriously. I get so many compliments when I wear this mask, because it makes people smile underneath their masks of course. I think that’s why I like this mask so much because with everything going on, it’s nice to know people are still finding things to smile about.
This breathable 3-Dimensional face mask is a handcrafted mask, that features a smiling mouth with red lips embroidered onto black and white polka dot fabric, it can be found here. This mask is available in sizes Medium through X-Large. It’s made with 100% Cotton so it’s breathable, no filter needed, can be washed and reworn.
The Gamecock Face Mask
Of course it goes without saying that I have a University of South Carolina mask, after all it is my Alma Mater. This breathable 3-Dimensional face mask is a handcrafted mask, that features a Garnet Gamecock on one side and the letters “USC” embroidered onto black fabric on the other side, it can be found here. This mask is available in sizes Medium through X-Large, it can be found here. It’s made with 100% Cotton so it’s breathable, no filter needed, and it can be washed and reworn.
The Lips X Cherry Face Mask
Since wearing lipstick has become somewhat of an anomaly these days. I have found other ways to incorporate it in my wardrobe. This breathable 3-Dimensional face mask is a handcrafted mask, that features red lips embroidered onto gingham fabric with cherries. This mask is available in sizes Medium through X-Large, and can be found here. It’s made with 100% Cotton so it’s breathable, no filter needed, and can be washed and reworn.
The Sassy Mouth Face Mask
Lastly, my final face mask is a bit of a shocker. Every time I wear it out people do a double take, I’m not sure if it’s because of the blood or the fangs. If I’m honest though, I feel a little bad ass when I wear it so it’s usually the one I grab the most. This breathable 3-Dimensional face mask is a handcrafted mask, that features red lips with blooding dripping from the mouth. This mask is available in sizes Medium through X-Large, which can be found here. It’s made with 100% Cotton so it’s breathable, no filter needed, and can be washed and reworn.
